When doing a web search, I came across a random Youtube video from the channel "The Brandon Boyd Show" where he discusses how Citi attempted to deny his wife a Premier signup bonus because she product changed from an AA card to a Rewards+. Sounds like it was not easy but she did get the points in the end.
I opened the card and hit the spend. SUB never posted so I called. I even went into a branch and got a backdoor number from a bank associate to call the credit card department. After several months of calls I ended up with zilch. I was told by several of the reps that the PC was the same as opening an account and the block of the SUB was an automated step by their system. I thought this was strange because as several here have posted that's not what their language on restrictions would suggest.
I was finally offered 5k TYPs for my trouble but they never showed and I was tired of fighting with Citi. So I gave up.
All of this is probably moot because OP is planning on PCing to a DC and not a core TYP product. I just don't want someone researching this later to not find a DP that could help them if it's been discussed.
As for Brandon Boyd's wife I believe they figured it out. Either a more sympathetic rep or they put up more of a fight. Mine situation was last year so maybe things were different at that time.
