Picked up from here yesterday.
I seen a bunch of conflicting information both online and from previous threads/tripadvisor reviews, etc, so wasn't sure what to expect, but here's what happened for me, coming from the mainland. The national website gives an address of 2 Eireann Quay and when you click it, brings up google maps GPS coordinates of where the mainland parking lot used to be. The website also says "cars are also located on the island", which sounded like cars are at both on and off the island.
I had a one day premium reservation at YTZ. I thought the pickup would be on the mainland at the parking lots before the ferry however that's not the case. There are signs saying National/Enterprise --> however they don't actually explicitly say (on these signs) that you are proceeding to the island.
So I followed the signs to the tunnel entrance and then on to the national counter where the counter was (looking permanently) closed with a sign saying to proceed to the parking lot outside on the island.
I was hoping my reservation would be ready to go since there is no aisle access, however I had to wait in line (one of the people in front of me was on the do not rent list it turned out), and when I was finally helped they didn't have a vehicle for me so had to go clean one.
I had to wait about a half hour and the vehicle they were going to give me (a Chrysler 300) still wasn't ready, so I just asked to take a downgrade because I didn't want to miss another ferry and wait even longer.
I ended up getting a Kia Forte with 65k KM. I was also offered a Kia soul. There was a GLC in the parking lot that I didn't bother asking about, but was hoping to get.
The service was friendly enough, and the manager did knock a bit off my reservation, so everything ended up fine. It was just a really big hassle, and it's also frusturating because I still had to go through 2 pieces of ID verification and credit card payments here. What is the point of having status/a profile if I have to do this every time? This really felt like just another non-airport location serviced ultimately by enterprise.
Oh and as a first timer, the ferry system was a bit hard to understand at first. You get a parking ticket to exit the gate at the mainland - once you get your vehicle, you drive in a circle and lineup to wait for the ferry, use the parking ticket, and are on your way. On the way back though, the signage isn't as good. There's 4 lanes that go to the airport, and the obvious lane for the ferry is on the right hand side, however it's only the two lefthand side lanes that line up for the ferry. Oops. Security yelled at me but probably thought just another dumb tourist. You then grab a parking ticket to open the gate to the ferry and just leave that ticket in the car.
There wasn't many vehicles in the enterprise lot so I don't know what else they normally have.
If you are flying into YTZ this is fine. If you are starting on the mainland (like me), it might not be worth it if you need to return to YTZ and there is no one-way drop off surcharge on your rate. As an Executive Elite member at a more quiet location, I was expecting to have a car ready for me to go, but like I said the manager was nice enough and apologetic about it.
