And neither HA nor Aloha had anything like the financial and operational strength HA has had in recent years, even in an interisland market that was way bigger than it is now (back when most neighbor island traffic came through HNL). I fly interisland a lot, and while the current cheap fares are nice, I'm worried about where it leads. HA has its faults, but it's maintained a robust interisland schedule, operated reliably (until the current HNL runway construction mess), and held fares within reason. As much as I'd like to see AS expand its presence in Hawaii, Mokulele would have to get vastly bigger to be of any use for most interisland trips, which would be awfully hard to justify as long as Southwest keeps setting money on fire to try to establish a foothold.
