If they can't repair your bag they will usually try to reimburse (or should I say trick) you with a voucher.
You will have the choice of several bags, but you have to pay an additional amount from your pocket to get a similar one, because of inflated prices.
Had the same issue a few years back and it took me more than one year until they finally returned my claim to the airline and I was refunded with cash.
