Spent a night here to burn an Aspire certificate. Largely impressed, as the property is well done and staff seem enthusiastic and welcoming. Check-in is rather involved, but yielded a nice upgrade (upon inquiry) to a Oceanfront Master Suite — agent had to check with manager, but it IS my birthday week
Spectacular corner room with full living room and wraparound decks on 4th floor (right above Asian themed restaurant).
Everything still like-new, as the property is just a year old.
A few short takes: Dinner at the steakhouse was the highlight — upgraded to the rack of lamb (around $60) and was excellent, albeit pricey. Other venues were a mixed bag. Mexican dishes were well done. Lunch at Sunan, the Asian venue was disappointing — they tried, but came up short on flavors. Waiter tried to tell me ponzu is soy sauce with lemon. Wrong. But the staff, without fail, was friendly and engaging (uhh…tips). Beach here suffered from lots of seaweed/sargassum, despite booms around the shore and daily raking. No turquoise waters here (apparently common in Puerto Morales). Nothing nearby/walkable — the resort is like a quarter mile from the main road. Was not full — maybe 50% occupancy. No problems finding a chaise at the pool or beach.
In short, would return because the tranquility/quality/service outweighs the location IMHO.
