Cathay referred passenger back to Alaska as 'issuing airline'. Indicated Cathay could do nothing as 'an Alaska ticket'.
If already in route CX should handle it but their service has gone downhill since Covid. It’s a shell of its former shelf, sadly you are unlikely to get much help from them easily,
