With the Green benefit raised to $189 I have a new strategy to get 4 adult family members fully reimbursed via the Platinum and Green, but not sure about payment mechanics with me being the cardholder for both Plat and Green. The thought is to split the Clear memberships. I would remain primary on one clear membership ($109 as I have the Delta Amex Gold Card) with one additional family member DW ($60) total $169 and fully reimbursed within the $189 Plat credit.
Then the the third family member DD1 creates her own primary CLEAR membership with Delta discount ($119) and adds the 4th DD2 ($60) - total $179 - and the increased Green benefit would cover that. My concerns are
- will CLEAR let DD1 pay her membership with my Green or ding it for the name mismatch, and if yes
- will AMEX issue the credit if there is a name mismatch
- and if the answer to either of those is no, can I add either person DD1 as an authorized user to my Green and have her pay with the AU Green to get the benefit.
The Green CLEAR benefit terms says it applies "when you use
your American Express Green CardŽ to pay for
your annual CLEAR membership" (bold added). That implies my item 2 is a problem, though I'm not sure it is meant to be read strictly. With respect to Item 3 I cannot find a reliable answer as to whether the AU can use the CLEAR benefit. I know AUs do not get an additional CLEAR benefit, but just need them to be able to use the single $189 credit.
Appreciative of any DPs or other helpful responses.
