That said, if your Samsonite was really brand new, they may cover it under warranty. Sure, it was the airline who did it, but depends on the model - I once bought a brand new, fancy, "unbreakable", 10-year-shell-warranty Samsonite, checked it in for the first time, and took it out of baggage claim cracked lenghtwise, from top to bottom. Took it to Samsonite primarily to vent about their "undestructible" suitcase

and they replaced it no questions asked.
Regarding Dolfi, I've had damage reimbursed, I had suitcases replaced altogether... YMMV, but they always somehow fixed the issue.
