Or BA could even place the locker beneath where the passengers are seated in a special "hold"

BA could also offer a service where you can leave the bag with the check in agent when you arrive at the airport, where they'll arrange for it to be put on board the plane for you.
They'll also arrange for it to be taken off at your destination airport and delivered to a reclaim area.
