It is unfortunate that the mid-day flights leaving FLL are so expensive... can't know how soon we will be able to get off the cruise and be at FLL, so we need to book a later flight than we would prefer. The last time we cruised, we spent many uncomfortable hours at FLL waiting for a late flight. FLL is very crowded and IIRC we can't check our bags until 2 hours prior to the flight But that might be a question for another thread here. I get so overwhelmed by this forum but it is a great help when I can figure it out!

The check in limit is 4 hours before the flight at FLL, not 2. Also no AA lounge there. Consider flying out of MIA if possible and it may open up more options, which is what I’m doing next Sunday.
Also if the cruise isn’t until after February it is very likely there will be schedule changes which will enable you to change to a better itinerary at no extra cost.
