I'm more experienced with LH in First where you have a vertical locker assigned to your seat on their 748 where in the past, I've seen folks bring much larger bags into the cabin without impeding others. I suppose I was wondering if there was such a feature in BA First. Apparently not. That's fine and I'll have no problem checking my bag.
I honestly don't think there is any harm in asking here! I just don't think it will fly with BA and as mentioned, the luggage set up is different on different aircrafts in F on BA but (in my view) particularly restrictive on the 789.

In terms of vertical cupboard, on some planes, you have a mini wardrobe, but it is tiny - typically enough to put your jacket and a small handbag or toiletry bag and your shoes on top of each other or something, but not enough to put a regular sized backpack, let alone anything bigger, and again, some planes like the 789 do not have it at all.
