Will AA through check my bags or do I have to collect and recheck in CLT? I’m EXP if that matters.

If the tickets need to be in the same PNR, can AA merge the two tickets?

Thanks!
No, AA will not check bags through across separate PNR's, and no, you can't merge the 2 PNR's. So allow enough time in CLT to claim your bags and check in again.
