I read the T&C and it is really not clear whether elite status applies. All it says is that "travel not eligible to earn miles and status".
Also, the "Taxes, fees, and charges apply at the time of booking" is not very comforting. For example, does this include the CIC?
At $1999 this is a definite no.
At $599 I think it's _only_ worth it if I can get a status match in December. If I have no status this is not going to be much better than booking in advance.
