Morocco has been an unusual hole in IHG's footprint, with no active properties there aside from a variety of Mr. & Mrs. Smith properties in the Atlas Mountains, Essaouira, Fes and Marrakesh; you can find the full list of them at the
attached link. I just stayed at one of Marrakesh properties at the end of October, and will post a review shortly.
That being said, IHG does have a pipeline which will include the following properties:
- Six Senses Aït Abbou
- Six Senses Rissani
- Six Senses Zagora
- InterContinental Rabat
I've seen the Six Senses properties bandied about since 2020; they will be housed in historic kasbahs from the 1800s that are undergoing restoration to host 20 to 24 rooms, but I haven't been able to find an opening date for any of them; I would hope that they open next year or the year after at the maximum. Attaching a screenshot of a slide I have to give you an idea of what to expect; they look properly posh and on brand for Six Senses, and will no doubt be tremendously expensive.
As for the InterContinental, it will take over the partially constructed and abandoned Baccarat Hotel project at the corner of Av. Mehdi Ben Barka and Rue Bani Mtir, and was supposed to open in Q1 2022. However, construction hoardings for the site only went up in June, so I would assume this one won't open until some point in 2023 at the earliest.
I hope to see more properties pop up soon; a location in Casablanca would be an obvious choice. Maybe they can line up the forthcoming Royal Mansour for the Vignette Collection...
