How can I simply this so I can understand this rule? I can seem to book with Avios but not with AAdvantage miles.

Is there a way to get from DFW to DPS in business using AAdvantage miles since it appears HKG is closed with Cathay Pacific or am I just not finding availability in 2023?

Thanks!
At the AAdvantage partner redemption chart, you'll see that for travel between the contiguous 48/Canada and Asia 2 (which includes Indonesia) there is a caret symbol (^); look down to the footnotes and you'll see that the caret symbol means "Transpacific" only:

You can redeem AAdvantage miles for DFW-DOH-DPS, but it would require two separate awards (and more miles). The upside of this is that you could stop over (as opposed to merely connect) in DOH, if desired.
