About 15 years ago, I was flying DTW-PIT on a NW DC-9 (this was 2007; I think the last one was manufactured in 1982). After everyone was just about boarded, the captain made a PA to the effect of "ladies and gentleman, someone noticed a puddle of oil under our right engine. We're checking that out for you." Turns out something was loose and the problem was easily fixed with minimal delay, but a puddle of oil under the engine doesn't inspire confidence.
(As an aside, the crew managed to do a full beverage service on the ~35 minute flight)
Hahahaha, classic Northworst experience of the best and worst on the same flight. We knew they weren’t the best, but darn it, they were our hometown airline.
