Flying BA242 (Mex to Lhr) about a decade ago or so.
Just after breakfast in a voice akin to a WWII airforce squadron leader "good morning ladies and gentlemen, as you'll see out of the window today, it's a beautiful clear sky with just a few clouds. London Heathrow on the other hand is, to use a better word - dismal. The airport has currently been closed for the last hour due to gusting crosswinds and flooding and we're currently expecting our instructions for a diversion to Paris".
We were already descending when we got an update"Success ladies and gentlemen, Heathrow is now open and we're going to give it a go. However, I do ask that you fasten your seatbelts early and firmly as we're expecting it to be a rather side to side landing".
The landing wasn't actually all that bad in the end.
