Have posted this before but this was on an approach on a clear day into LHR about 10 years ago, landing from the east to west....so in over the city. When we were about 15 minutes out the captain announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, from the flight deck,we are about 15 minutes from landing, the seat belt sign will shortly come on blah-blah" Then followed by:

Those of you seated on the right will be able to see the The River Thames, Millenium Dome, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, The Houses of Parliament, St Jame's Park, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park".

There was then a short pause, followed by, "unfortunately those of you on the left will get glimpses of Croydon"
