I think it's wise to see FAA oversight as an additional check on an airline's safety standards. We all know the FAA can drop the ball, just as an airline can (which is why you want the oversight).
I think you're kidding yourself if you think the quality of Frontier personnel is as good as a major US airline. I do think it's good enough. Or at least I hope so.
