Does the hotel not offer upgrades if booked directly through the website?
Sometimes a property will match the Virtuoso benefits on a direct booking if you ask them to, sometimes they won't. You have to ask and see what they respond.
Note that most --not all-- Virtuoso upgrades are not guaranteed, they are based on availability when you arrive.
