Probably formulation or process change since Heinz got its hands on the brand. Might be my tastebuds have dulled with age too. Might also be that the current bottle is a packaged-for-Costco thus presumably a U.S. market product (allegedly saltier and sweeter).
I think they use HFCS in the US version and real sugar everywhere else. Apparently they also use white vinegar in the US version but malt vinegar elsewhere. The US packaging is nice though.
