Question united basic economy seat selection

Hi everyone.
We purchased 2 basic economy tickets for UA - EWR to LHR. We have Amex platinum and we were going to use the $200 credit to select seats. The configuration is 2-3-2. Expert flyer is showing many of the 2 seats as paid and premium and available, the same as many of the 3 seats, but on United when I want to purchase, it is not showing any of the paired seats as available for purchase. In the old days, when there wasn't so much information available, we would just wait for them to assign seats at check in, and we were usually placed together with no problem. Ideally, we'd love the paired 2 seats... will they open up later for pay? Or should we wait until check in and press our luck? It's my first time checking out Expert Flyer and I was surprised to see that the seats available don't match up. Any insights are greatly appreciated. Kathy
