Yes, sometimes it will work but often it will not (has nothing to do with website vs app) and the results are disastrous -- it has to be worth the significant risk of losing the ticket. The new booking approach, when possible. should be the first try.
This story is commonly repeated regularly on FT and an experienced agent will generally not do this.
