Possibly higher. SDC as a free option only applies on direct services on uncomplicated bookings inside Europe in Plus and most CE fares. And there are many places with only one flight a day so a somewhat academic feature. On long haul you pay for changes, and fares aren't likely to go down. Now it's possible there is some disruption somewhere, or oversales, that will allow the change free of charge, and there are a few routes where other logic applies, but for most services you can't standby or do a free SDC. And Newark would be one of them.
