It's a 30 minute flight from Nagasaki to Iki, so it should be right up your alley.
Thinking about a visit here sometime in the Spring, but might visit Naoshima and Shodoshima instead - TBD.
Yes, after staying at Goto Retreat Ray, I learned they were part of okcs, the small boutique chain that includes Retreat Iki Kairi and checked out its website (
https://okcs.co.jp/). It certainly looks worth a visit and they have gotten very good reviews on Tripadvisor.com. I viewed their rooms online and find them a little more on the traditional side. In my early days in Japan, that’s what I wanted, but anymore I’m partial to Japanese modern design and interior (of which Goto Retreat is a good example) as I find it less austere and more comfortable. Still, I do think a visit to Iki Kairi is in the cards. Interestingly, three okcs hotels including Iki Kairi (but not Goto Retreat) are part of Design Hotels, which is owned by Marriott. However, they do not show up in a search for hotels in Japan at Marriott.com, but they do at designhotels.com.
