Again these things are important to me and crucial as there’s 5 other hotels (Hiltons and Hyatts) nearby I could’ve easily gone to and been upgraded or had a larger room, based on past stays and checking inventory. This is why I called several times to ensure everything went smoothly. I honestly couldn’t have done more than I did to ensure I did my best.
I didn't say anything about your effort or that you didn't do your best. I was merely pointing out that the diamond benefits have been substantially reduced over the last several years and the terms and conditions with regard to upgrades have been so watered down that there is no guarantee of anything. Properties are allowed to basically upgrade you to any room that they decide is a "preferred room" and there's not much you or I can do about that except be selective about the properties you book and don't return to the properties that don't meet your expectations (and tell the property GM why you aren't going to return).
