Marriott Surawongse is one of the best Marriotts in the world but nonetheless it should not kick the butt of a Luxury Collection hotel like it does. One of the few strong points of Athenee remains drinks for happy hour (no longer food) and even for that, considering that Marriott Surawongse offers cocktails, it is not getting blown away by Athenee in that regard.
I read the same reviews and I am also concerned that I would be disappointed, if I go back to this hotel. Hopefully, things will change around in the near future.
Wasn't the Plaza Athenee, a Le Meridien hotel, a better "experience" than the Athenee, Luxury Collection?

In comparison, I like the suites at the Athenee a lot more than the ones at The Surawongse. One of the advantages, that this last property has, is the almost daily check from the owner.
