My experience is it doesn't matter in terms of being able to "re wait-list". I didn't check in and called to try, got told no re waitlist possible. So I had no choice but checked in the Y seat. In the final T6 they got my UG cleared by an email informing me I need to check in again for new upgraded ticket.

Gold can only do it by calling CS. In this way an UG re-waitlist isn't guaranteed unlike WA service for Plat and Lumo. I myself got told no after T37. And some ppl in this thread is able to put back in wait-list.
