The immigration lines at ICN were very long so I got to talk to them for an hour or so (4-6 pm arrivals at ICN get really congested because that's when most of the flights from North America arrive). Basically, she had surgery in Korea about three months ago and every three months, she needs to fly back so that the hospital can do check-ups and because Korea has one of the best health-care systems along with medical tourism, it's much cheaper to do it over there than in the US and her grandson was paying for it. It's safe for her to fly but she just needs to be careful with her body positions, hence she was wearing a very bulky arm and shoulder sling and why she requested an extra pillow.
