Long Layover Baggage Thru-Check?

I'm considering two itineraries with a HKG layover. Both are Canada-HKG-SGN. Over-ocean flight is AC, regional sector is CX

We need to transport approx. 60kg of luggage for both trips.

For the first, it would be a daytime layover: arrive in the morning and depart by dinner. I would assume there's no issues with CX holding our bags and thru-checking them onward for the ten hour layover? We plan on day tripping into the city. I don't think this was an issue pre-covid, but just wanted to ask just in case things have changed.

For the second trip, it would be an unavoidable overnight stay: fly into HKG at night, and leave the following day. While we haven't decided whether to take the morning flight home or the evening flight home, both options would be an overnight stay in HKG but would not exceed 24 hours.

Would we be forced to take our luggage landside in that case?

Thanks!
