You answered your own question

You pretty much answered your own question:

"Aeroplan says once you cancel your seats in P may, or may not go back to inventory…"

Cancel and rebook at your own peril. Even if they do go back into inventory as P class, somebody may be booking a revenue ticket between the time you cancel and the time you rebook, thereby making the seats unavailable.

I need your help. I called Aeroplan, and they said, to make these changes, we will have to cancel the ticket altogether, and re-book. I then asked how many miles I would have to pay: "don't know" Agent said we will only know once cancelled, and we start re-booking.

When doing dummy searches, SYD - YVR - YWG, in P is no longer available, and the lowest fare available is D. Aeroplan says once you cancel your seats in P may, or may not go back to inventory, and we may or not be able to grab those two seats in P class. I really need your help. What should I do? Assuming, no one else grabs those 2 seats in P class between my cancellation and re-booking, do you think I will be able to re-book SYD-YVR-YWG at almost the same mileage I used with a stopover in YYC? I do not want to pay more miles, since I do not have a lot of miles left. Thoughts please?????
