we do need to reprice the itinerary when removing a segment in order to reissue the ticket correctly. We do appreciate your loyalty to us and we'll continue to be here to support you along the way.

I responded that the policy in this situation is illogical and just not right.
No, it isn't illogical. You and AA agreed on a price to transport you Grand Cayman >> Myrtle Beach. Think of it this way, not Grand Cayman >> Charlotte >> Myrtle Beach. Your itinerary just happened to connect in Charlotte because that is where AA has a hub. The price for Grand Cayman >> Charlotte is higher for whatever reason, probably supply and demand. Also, your last minute change no doubt changed the price.

AA charges more for that itinerary ending in Charlotte simply because... they can! Again, it is priced by supply and demand between the origin and destination, not by adding up the flight segments. AA would say, "Well, if you wanted to fly to Charlotte, you should have bought a ticket to Charlotte!" And they would be correct. That fact that the storms or whatever messed up your plans is not AA's fault, unless they cancel their flight there, which they did not. The decision not to go to Myrtle Beach is a voluntary choice by you.

You decided to be booked on a more expensive route. You need to pay the price.

All that said, there is no problem with just walking out at CLT. I have done that several times. The decision to actually rebook was yours, which is why you were charged. Rebooking wasn't necessary.
