I cannot speak specifically to what you are seeing but it sure sounds like married segments to me and yes I have seen those on award bookings with certain carriers. I have even seen "reversed" married logic segments. Were you could book A-B and B-C as separate bookings (which meant more points) but could not book A-B-C as one booking.
