I've never been to Tahiti, but from what I know about it there's a lot of elbow room. It's not like driving a large vehicle in an old European city with tight crowded roads and precarious parking situations. You'll generally have a rural experience. I would imagine it's not much different than driving in Hawaii (non-Honolulu).
