Avis offers discounts for government employees renting for leisure. So I've rented a car that way for pick up and drop off at MCO. I'm also a Preferred member, so I typically pick up my car and go check out

I know that Avis needs to check my government ID to verify eligibility. Where is that done? Do I need to stop by a counter now or can they check it at the "check-out" gate?

Anybody done this?
