Asked about an upgrade at check-in and forgot about the HGI rule. The check-in desk agent informed me as per the T&Cs HGI don't do upgrades but he'd try his best as a one off. The only room they were prepared to "upgrade" to was pool view but they only had twin rooms so stuck with what I booked. Anything above that was a King Family Room or King One Bedroom Suite. I ended up with a "nice" view of the carpark and road but theres absolutely no road noise through the windows so not a bother. Water pressure is good in the shower and they're using non-brand shower gel/shampoo in bamboo bottles.

Breakfast has a reasonable spread and there are machines for espresso based drinks. Just stay away from the coffee in the jugs - that was nasty. They bought me a little cake to thank me for my Diamond status which was nice.

The pool is pretty pleasant and the area the pool sits (an external courtyard in the middle of the guest room buildings) is a relatively relaxing space. Water temperature was actually warm. You can actually lay on the sunbathers or swim in the pool to the sound of throbbing GE90 from the airport which is a stones throw.

The hotel itself is just fine but there is obviously maintenance needed in some areas.

Will upload photos later.
We haven’t stayed since Covid, but did regularly get upgrades here. One bedroom suite most often. Once the Presidential suite. I think the lower bidder won the contract for construction. It was funny when all the interior pool tiles were falling off after a couple of years.
