Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the CI lady I spoke with (Mainland customer service line) had no clue what she was talking about (e.g. it didn't seem to register with her that nearly all CI flights are to/from Taiwan). Do you (or anyone else) happen to have suggestions on semi-official websites I can fall back on? Chinese language is fine.
