Indeed. As a Hyatt Globalist, I get treated quite well at their full service properties (the status is of little value in a Hyatt Place).
From the beginning of hotel loyalty programs, Marriott has had to be dragged kicking and screaming to reward their loyal customers. They just don't see much of a benefit to THEM of being nice to YOU. The only solution, if you can, is to give your business to a different hotel chain where you might get better benefits.
