I looked at the 5G option too but I THINK it is only for physical SIMs not ESim. The checkbox is greyed out for me right now.

about 30 minutes total, and yo'ure right, the 5G option showed my SIM with a red X saying incompatible .. oh well, LTE is still super fast.

Also, the timing was perfect, I ordered mine near the end of September, was given 4GB for the remainder of the month, then given another 20GB for October. So when I arrived yesterday (10/31), I had 24GB free, and all my data used yesterday was in the 4GB from September bucket.

This morning when I woke up (11/1) I was given another 20GB, and had 40GB as of first thing this morning to use for my trip. All in all I think I spent around 4200 yen for 44GB I have in Japan, and can suspend it now until I'm back in Japan in late December.
