Just completed a 5-night award stay here. I applied SNAs to get to the Astor room, which is billed a junior suite. I suppose the kitchenette is what makes it a "suite" but in all other respects it's just a hotel room.
In any case, Mrs. sxpsxpsxp and I had an absolutely lovely stay. This was our second trip here, celebrating a special occasion. We would not hesitate to come back again.
The SNA cleared 5 nights out, and we were in an Astor room on the 24th floor. The room is quite spacious and we absolutely love the size of the balcony and the lounge chairs, not to mention the ocean view. As has been mentioned, the free breakfast for two as a platinum amenity is an unbelievable value. Granted, I would never pay the prices they charge for breakfast if I was paying cash. That said, the breakfast spread is, in my opinion, spectacular by US standards and rivals some of the nicer ones in Asia or Europe. The food is delicious.
I find the staff is ridiculously attentive -- every single person we interacted with, from the receptionist at the front desk to the waiters to the pool and beach staff, was friendly and kind and super helpful.
The pools and the beach area are just lovely.
The shower is huge -- you could have a party in there. There's a nice large soaking tub.
Now to the "problems" I had, which I definitely consider to be "first-world problems" and not real issues.
I found the TV to be oddly small given the size of the room -- it was probably somewhere in the 50" range, but I've been in smaller rooms in hotels that charge a tenth of what this one does with larger TVs. The phone didn't work when I tried calling for a bucket of ice (there are no ice machines), so I used the chat feature in the app. All in all I probably ended up waiting 30 minutes for ice which seems crazy. The light switches all try to be high tech but I suspect the presence of energy-efficient lighting messes with the controllers, so, for example selecting "soft" for the bathroom doesn't give you any soft light, but makes it flicker a bit. I found that one of the breakfasts from my stay made it to my bill, but the front desk person quickly took care of that at check-out.
