I would suggest you try change it online. You should be able to manage your booking online as long as your upgrade is not "mixed" (one leg got upgraded and the other got waitlisted, in that case you may have to call AC)
You need to reapply the eupgrade and clear. Usually you are not entitled to empty business class, although I once got a complimentary upgrade to the business class at the ticketing counter, but that is obviously an exception rather than rule.
For Flex fare you should be able to freely change your O/D, let alone routing.

Apologies in advance if this can be searched, hoping I can get fast answers to the following before trying to call. I have a confirmed flight YOW-YYZ-YVR tomorrow night that pre-cleared into R space. Wondering:
- Within 24 hours can I change by calling AC or do I need to call travel agency?
- If I change and there is a seat in business will I get it or do I downgrade and go on the list?
- Can I change routing? I see direct is already sold out in business, but other options may not be.
I know that it’s fare difference if there is any.
Basically my kid doesn’t need me home in the afternoon any longer so I don’t need to be on the latest flights of the day anymore.
