Currently in Manila (booked on UA points and spent 2 weeks in PH), next destination is CPT. Purchased tickets on Etihad for MNL-AUH-JNB. Separate tickets on AirLink from JNB-CPT… our flight to AUH is delayed 5 hours, will misconnect to JNB. Etihad has reticketed us to fly MNL-DXB-JNB leaving Monday rather than Sunday. Trying to get our original flights back.

would we be correct in understanding if we book another night in MNL, trip delay coverage would pay for it or if we misconnect in AUH trip coverage would pay? When I made international call today to Chase/eclaims, agent confirmed yes as we’re away from home but do you think they would use excuse that we’re beginning trip as they’re new tickets and not all one set (not USA-MNL-JNB-USA, but rather individual separate tickets)?

Trip protection is $500 pp and we can extend our current hotel for $250/NT but don’t want to pay if won’t be reimbursed.
