The Crown Plaza brand made good sense, back in 1985. See a business traveler at the time could count on a Crown Plaza to have a facsimile (fax) machine available and the ability to get some copies (xeroxes). They could count on a clean pay-phone bank in the lobby and a healthy smoking section that catered to cigars as well. The traveler could count on his dirty martini at the bar.
He could have his secretary book space in the available meeting rooms and then he could get his gents fired up for a presentation and awards banquet for a year well done.
And in today's world, pay phones and fax machines are not in fashion.
