Hilton Aspire or Marriott Brilliant?
I have a large purchase to make this week that would be perfect to meet the minimum spend for a new card that offers a bonus. I've narrowed it down to the Hilton Aspire or Marriott Brilliant and wondered what thoughts were about which one would be the better option.
Most of the bloggers/vloggers say the Hilton is slightly favorable, but I already have Hilton Diamond status with my Centurion card so that doesn't need to be a factor. I only have Marriott Gold, so the Brilliant would give me Platinum status, except many people say that Platinum is worthless. The Brilliant has a $200 higher annual fee.
We mostly stay in mid-tier properties throughout the US when road-tripping (e.g. Hamptons, Homewood Suites, Springhill Suites, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield) with rare stays at full-service hotels (in the past mostly Hilton's in European cities).
Any thoughts? What other considerations are there? I guess wanting to get the most reward nights out of the bonus points is one thing but it's difficult to calculate this as I'm not sure what the average number of points needed for our typical stay really is. On our summer trip, we had a night for 7,500 points and some for 50,000 points.
Also, is there any reason I wouldn't be approved for the Hilton Aspire with bonus given that I got the no-fee Hilton earlier this year, and just cancelled my Hilton Surpass this week? My current Marriott card is a Chase.
