Laughable experience with Price Match yesterday (HH Gold here, so I don't have access to the diamond desk). I need to go to Daytona for daughter's gymnastics competition in March. The hotel website has a 2-queen oceanfront room for $550+/night, nonrefundable. Expedia has $334/night, refundable until 72 hours prior to check-in day, with 1 night deposit. Price Match agent on the phone said because the refundable terms don't match, they can't price match. I very slowly and kindly explained that the Expedia terms were better -- it was a fully refundable rate, and the hotel wasn't even offering a refundable rate on this room for these dates. No bueno, didn't matter. I kindly asked for a supervisor (no luck), and even dialed back and got a new price match person - same answer. I called the hotel and let them know I did try to book direct and explained the situation, but the front desk person clearly didn't care anyway.
It's a tough scene out there. I get it, I'm an employer, but woah. And boy is it difficult to try to have a conversation with these agents on the phone. Apparently noise cancelling headsets haven't yet made it to whatever location they are in. It's crazy loud, and even if it wasn't I'm not sure it would be much easier to understand them half the time.
We ended up taking the rate with Expedia and we'll just follow up to make sure we get a hotel confirm.
