If the Los Angeles flights are anything like the ones between San Francisco and the hubs, I'm guessing that the first class cabins on Monday and Friday are full of Plats and Golds doing regular commutes.

I think you'll have better success as a Silver on other days.

And of course, if you fly NW from the West Coast often, you'll join the ranks of Golds & Plats relatively quickly.
