I went and took care of the LH flight first and payment went through in no time.

This is the most hearbreaking part… the moment i went to Swiss website, the cash upgrade cost went from $820 to $1,650, which is way beyond our budget. 🥲🥲🥲

I am thinking the upgrade i made on LH website few minutes beforehand had triggered the increase on the LX upgrade??? At least that’s what i suspect. Anything like this happened to anyone?

Anyhow, 4 days ago the price actually went up to $1,250 and it came down to $820 after 24hrs or so.

Here’s the only saving grace though, good thing i still have access on the bidding. Minimum bid was $770. I put a bid close to minimum so i am keeping my fingers crossed. The flight would be 49 days from now.

phew! This is kind of frustrating ☹️

Just to update everyone who follows this thread. The fixed cash upgrade of $1,650 went down to its original price of $820 last week. I didn’t waste time and i grabbed the opportunity to upgrade two seats right away! Yay 😀 And, yes, i cancelled my bid on LX after the cash upgrade was finalized.

Now, both of our out-bound and in-bound flights were upgraded.

Here’s the breakdown of the final cost:

2 economy light class tickets: $1,828.76
(LH: SFO-MUC-FCO / LX: ZRH-SFO)
This includes 2 baggage and 4 seat reservation fees

2 business class upgrades: $1,800.00
(LH: SFO-MUC)

2 business class upgrades: $1,640.00
(LX: ZRH-SFO)

GRAND TOTAL: $5,268.76
This could have cost us over 10 grand if we booked it straight up business class during the time of booking in Oct 5th. IMO it is still expensive, but, do you guys think this is a good deal anyway? By the way, this is our first time flying business ever.
