I had enough issues flying into LAX a few years ago for a business conference which had an elongated leisure trip tagged on the end. When TSA asked 'business or leisure' and I said 'a bit of both!' as it was, he became ridiculously angry, almost comically so (where I thought he was being angry as a joke!) and said "sir, I won't ask again, are you coming in for business or leisure?'
Incredible. Appears you can't do both on the same trip to the US! And certainly not mischief...
I remember landing at LAX, I think in 2014. Was only my second visit to the US. The flight had been good, but I don't sleep on planes, and it was one of those where you land about 4pm US time, so your brain is fully midnight.
I then had a nightmare because I left my passport on the plane - and there was all sorts of sprinting and reasoning/begging needing to be done. Finally got through customs/immigration and just as I was leaving a
huge TSA guy walked up to me and just asked 'what is the purpose of your visit?!' I'm 99% sure I near enough burst into tears and just sobbed 'I DON'T KNOW!'
