I think I've settled on the
Travelpro Platinum Elite International Expandable Rollaboard. Their 22" model is actually 23" long including wheels, which seems too big (certainly for non-US airlines, for the once every few years I fly a non-US airline), but the International model is a little smaller while still being a good size. I don't have a great sense of the real world sizes, but I think the "22" is similar to the Costco-brand carryon I had long ago, which was on the larger side for a carryon, and the International one is similar size to Mr Gfunk's Tumi Alpha that he's had for a while.
I just wish the International came in colors besides brown and black, but in either case it's sold out so I will just have to wait.
I also saw that Costco Next (whatever that is) has Briggs & Riley Baseline International expandable 21" carryon in stock for $490 (MSRP is $630). I kinda like that one too but also wish it came in more colors.
