I don't think that any frequent flyer is expecting bells and whistles to ring out each time they fly (and would be somewhat embarrassing). A sincere 'welcome back xyz' is really all that is needed to be honest. I've had welcomes when I was a mere blue (before 'bronze' was a thing and before I really understood/knew of higher tiers), some when I've been silver, and even some as gold, although it has been a bit haphazard as to when/which routes/etc. During covid it was more consistent, but this year it's been zero - so far onboard, but oddly welcomed back by check-in agents, gate staff and on AA - but not onboard with BA. For international flights I find the latter somewhat perplexing since as you board you show them your boarding pass - the group number is a dead giveaway - and written in large letters! This alone should be a hint for those at the door to look more closely and just utter those words "Welcome Back ...." - that's just good customer service.
Meanwhile, although AA/AY may have removed the 'perk' of drinks, of course, AA allow the OWEs to selected their main cabin extra, which comes with complementary beverages - sorted.
(P.S. I get more 'welcome back's from my local chippy than I do with BA - despite flying BA more often (and spending vastly more) than visiting my local chippy!).
